KiliChicks summary

We are all home safe and sound - everything seems to be back to normal with ski lessons, groceries to do, mounds of laundry, dishwashers to empty - but nice to be in our own private bathrooms and comfy beds. The reality of our accomplishment is starting to sink in and makes one wonder how we can "give back" to the amazing people in Tanzania whom we met on our journey. Our day spent at Amani made our fundraising efforts a reality and we would like to thank each and every one of our generous supporters for your monetary gifts. You have made a difference in the lives of these children. We are reviewing our bucket lists and will keep you posted on what the next adventure is!! Till then, keep safe and don't forget....do something every day that challenges you!!!!

Amani .... what it was all about

We are at Amani and here is a picture of Pam's relay team. The kids are just awesome and so excited to see us. This completes us.... to see what our fundraising efforts were all about. Little kids whose home used to be a street corner and they now have a bed, clean clothes, food and education. Just amazing.

Still on Safari

At the end of the day we finally saw the GIRAFFE!.

More Safari

Tons of Zebras!

Kilichicks on Safari ...

Today we left the Kilemakyaro Lodge (which seemed like the Holiday Inn when we arrived but yesterday after 7 days of camping now seems like the Four Seasons!) At 530 am for our jeep safari to the Ngorongora Crater. Unbelievable sites Lions, Elephants, Wildabeast, Hyena, Hippos, Zebras, Water Buffalo, Monkeys, gazells, antelope, flamingos, rhinos, cory-bastard (no kidding a bird) but still looking for giraffes. Hard to believe 2 days ago we were on top of the world and now we are in a basin of wildlife. Off to visit the kids tomorrow. Love us!

Kilichicks Descent

After the euphoria of standing on the roof of Africa started to sink in we then had to comprehend how the heck we were going to get off the mountain especially Amanda, Norma and Anne. I think we figured a taxi or something would come along. But NOOOOO we had to use our trotters to get down! The first 4K feet was like skiing in knee deep powder with chunks of ice except the powder was ash and dirt and the ice chunks were rocks and we were not wearing skiis!! We arrived at Barafu for lunch although no one was hungry. We then packed up our tents again and continued on our descent for another 3K feet to Millenium Camp where we had our first cold beer. We had a wonderful sleep - go figure and were awakened with tea being delivered to our tents! Packed up for the last time! And proceeded to continue down to the gate which was another 7K feet. Burning quads, tight calves, sore toes and all we went back to our hotel for a much needed shower, hair washing and another ice cold beer. Off to safari and will blog from there........

10K ft and camping!

Well, this sure isn't the 4 Seasons! Here is our bathroom!! After 5.5 hrs of a vertical beautiful trek thru the rainforest complete w white faced monkeys we made it ahead of schedule. We beat last year's group by a half hour in case any of u are reading this! We are at Machame Hut Camp and no one is ill. Having a lot of laughs w excellent food and have a serious climb ahead of us tomorrow w pretty steep paths and 3K more of elevation. Talk to u from 12.6K feet tomorrow.

Elephant .. what elephant?

Anxious to begin .....

Hi everyone we are about to leave. Had a fabulous practice hike yesterday through a coffee plantation. Prepared our bags...challenge..we had to have them all weighed and guess what? 20 lbs over for the four off us, a combination of "snacks" and hand and feet warmers! We will be the only "Live out Loud Adventures" group that GAINS WEIGHT. Oh well managed to split it around. Went into town for dinner...pizza at Italian Passion. The good news we had a BEER each. Waiting for the Prime Minister to get to Moshi from the airport before we can hit the road and start the climb. Love Kilichicks 2010

Kilichicks Arrive in Africa (It may never be the same!)

Hi everyone. We are here safe and sound. A little panic at the airport in Killi. The last persons luggage off the plane was...Anne's! You should have seen her face and the sweat on her brow when she (and all of us) thought we would have to share..phew. This AM we woke up to a surreal vista with bright blue sky and the summit out our windows. What an amazing site. We have already been warned NOT to even think about riding the elephant who guards the pool! Wonder why they told us that!!!! Off on a practice hike and dinner in Moshi. Report from 10000 feet tomorrow. Love the Kilichicks xx00
